HAY COLLEGE KIDS LISTEN UP PLZ D:

GUSS WUT U GAIZ!! I'll be starting college next week! Woohoo!

But I still haven't registered for classes. Don't worry, it's cool. The place I'm going to is letting students register all week up until Saturday.

The thing is, they require/recommend I take 5 classes (13 hrs) this semester. Okay, cool. But I wanna take JUST. ONE. MORE. CLASS.

Japanese.

Cuz I'm a freaking weeaboo D:

BUUUUT. It's gonna add 3 more hours to my load, making it 16 hrs a week. Also, I wanna be able to work a part-time job.

SO, COLLEGE PPL:

Do you think 16 hrs will be too much?

How many hours are you guys taking and how are you handling it?

Do you have a part-time job? How many hours a week do you work?

What about homework?

At this point I'm thinking about waiting til next semester to take it, I want to be sure I can handle the 13 hrs first. BUT I WANNA TAKE IT SO BADLY!!!

It's the reason I got excited about going to college ;A;

Depends on what the classes are and how you did in high school. Max I've done so far is 16. This semester I'm taking only 12 since it's packed at my college. I plan next semester to take 18...

But yeah, depending on what the classes are and how you are at studying, 13 should be normal....more might be a little too much...it depends on the classes. If you think you can handle it all, I'd say go for it. I'm lazy, so I would rather just go with the 13 lol

I also worked part-time the whole first 2 years of school. I did about 20 hours max a week. This semester I'm cutting down to 15 hours max a week at work...but I may quit soon since I got free money lol.

I do 15 hrs a week, but all but one of my classes every semester are easy in my opinion XD; it really depends mostly on what exactly the classes are, just like wolf-rat said. If the other classes are ones you're seriously gonna need study time for, or are difficult for you, don't take the extra load. Also remember to keep in mind your budget, if you're paying for it on your own. I know that's probably a stupid thing to say (I mean, come on, you know how to work money! You're thinking) but I know of a lot of people who spent money they thought they wouldn't need to take an extra class or do this or that or the other thing and ended up regretting it. So...yeah. I'm bad on advice tho XD;

W00t if you do decide to take it though! I can't wait till classes start so I can have people to practise with again ><

I was only at 14 and it was absolutely MISERABLE.
18 page papers plus a job?

Definately not.
If you're going to be a part time student, AND have a part time job, I reccomend living at home.

The stress from supporting yourself and staying up all night getting work done will kill you.

only take about 4 classes per semester which this year totals to about 12 hrs, on top of helping run the schools anime club and going to student gov meetings and other club's meetings. and I do part time work at a haunted hay ride during the fall. I usually don't take more than 12 hrs, myself and i am going to a community collage, that isn't nearly as demanding as a 4 year school. and living at home and I am handling it okay.

most instructors I've had also suggest giving yourself at least twice the time of the class to study, which is 1 hr class 2 hrs study. so you can learn the material.

Really, it depends on the class. The most I've done a semester is 15 hours while working full time; NOT FUN. 12 hours isn't too bad (that's about four classes at three credit hours each), especially if it's still the 100 level. Honestly, I would wait to take Japanese until next semester, just to make sure you overburden yourself and you better know what you can handle.

(Hi! I lurk your journal lol)

last year I had 24 h a week @_@
but I'm living in France so it must be different.

I don't know how it works in the States but you may find a part-time job of 8 hours maybe? It's minimum we can find in France and it's quite good I think. But well, it depends on the aim of the job. If you need it to survive or if it's only to spare a bit.

This year, I'm gonna only have 6 hours (because I'm taking again the same classes I failed so...well, complicated) I would be able to find a part time job around 12 or 16 hours.
:iconcoffeeme:
8 had 7 classes at 3 hours each a week, so 21 hours. If youre just doing that its not so bad, but its a different story if youre going to be working a lot (I usually only worked6 hours a week and I found that tough to balance).
